A cloud of resident gannets float in the up draughts between the St Kilda off-shore stacs, Stac Lee and Stac an Armin in a fresh Westerly breeze. Winter is a tough time for these birds as the shoals of pelagic fish, on which they survive, have drifted elsewhere and each day involves lengthy flights to where food is available.
