BEREHYNIA (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Yuliia Naumenko

60 x 80 x 2cm (unframed)

£1,109

Berehynia is the first guardian in my TINI RODU series, a collection inspired by traditional Ukrainian guardian dolls (Motanki) reimagined as women as the core of creation. Tender yet unshakable, she is a keeper and protector of home, family, and lineage who holds the home together and weaves strength into every generation.

The Symbolism

The Motanka Cross: The cross across her face serves as a sacred protective symbol to shield against evil and connect the spiritual and earthly realms. Here, red represents life and bloodline, while ivory signifies peace and endurance.
White Scarf: The thread of family and faith, a continuity that ties the past and present.
Coral Beads: A little fire close to the heart, acting as a protective shield and talisman.
Background Embroidery: Featuring the Tree of Life from Podillia tradition, symbolizing generations and the unbroken bond of family.

Sacred Plants:

Kalyna (Viburnum): Motherhood, family, and the heartbeat of Ukraine.
Wormwood (Polyn): A cleanser and protector, keeping the home safe from evil.
Oak Leaves & Acorns: The strength of the family line, endurance, and ancestral roots.

Materials used:

acrylic on canvas , ink pen
