Original artwork description
This artwork depicts the embankment of a seaside resort town in winter. In the foreground, one can see a snow-covered pier with people strolling in the distance, a frozen sea covered with a thin layer of ice, where seagulls and pigeons are resting. Some birds have also perched on the golden dome of the pavilion. In the background, the port is visible.
This painting was created a month before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Berdyansk is my hometown. I am truly a sea soul — I cannot imagine my life without the sea air, the salty splashes of waves, the sound of the surf, and the cries of seagulls. Berdyansk is a small, cozy town with its own virtues and flaws, but I will always love it. It is my quiet harbor, beautiful even in its storms.
I love to travel and enjoy visiting big cities with their landmarks and history. Yet it feels so good to return home after a trip, even the most fascinating one — to a place where it’s calm and peaceful after all the noise and rush. I deeply long for the liberation of Berdyansk and all Ukrainian cities that are now under occupation.
This artwork has taken part in many exhibitions in Ukraine and across Europe.
