Original artwork description
Benares is also called Varanasi or Kashi. It is one of the oldest cities of the world which has been continuously inhabited. It has more than a three-thousand-year history. It is on the river Ganges. It is considered to be one of the sacred cities of India and occupies an important place in the religious geography of the country.
Ghats in Varanasi are river front steps leading to the banks of Ganges River. These Ghats have a mystic appeal. The city is said to have eighty-eight ghats.
Manikarnika Ghat is considered one of the holiest cremation grounds among the sacred ghats, alongside the river Ganges. There are temples at this Ghat such as Amethi temple and Ratneshwar temple that you see in this painting.
The painting is signed on the front and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
