Original artwork description:

Belonging No.23 by contemporary artist Sara Richardson. The Belonging series is about conflict, resolve and the range of emotions when deep human connections are made, fractured, mended and re-grown again. Allowing the sense of belonging to become more bonded and ultimately stronger. The series integrates hints of natural shapes such as leaves, petals and botanics with abstracted everyday objects.

The tone, abstraction, layers and textural aspects of Belonging No.23 represents when relationships alter needing to be reshaped and redefined. It's not necessarily about deconstruction or rebuilding, but more about the tiny sparks that create the actions needed to move forward to connect again in a different and often stronger way.

In person, Belonging No.23 is richly textured, with alternating dense layers of paint with light brushwork and glazing. The paint mixtures are custom created to reduce the overall glossiness in the painting and push up opacity to achieve a higher black and white contrast.
