In “Leap of Change”, I explore that split second when instinct overtakes hesitation. The Dalmatian — mid-flight through a circus hoop — becomes a symbol of the courage required to move into the unknown. The spots trail behind like fragments of doubt being shaken loose.
The painting uses expressive brushwork and bright, uplifting colour to amplify movement and energy. I wanted to capture not just the leap, but the emotional threshold that exists between safety and possibility. The circus pedestal anchors the scene in performance, yet the dog’s expression is focused and determined — as if this leap is for itself, not for applause.
For me, this work reflects the creative life: the willingness to vault beyond what feels comfortable, trusting that momentum will carry you to the other side.
