Bare Witness to the Breath is a quiet, immersive meditation—an intimate moment suspended inside darkness, light, and the spaces between. Created as part of my The Breath of Memory series, this painting embodies the feeling of standing still long enough for the truth of a memory to rise from the quiet.

The work is grounded in deep blacks and umbers, almost nocturnal in tone, with a single luminous band of blue-gray and white emerging from the center—like a breath held, a presence found, or a flicker of recognition in the dark. Scratched lines and subtle marks drift upward, echoing movement, time, and the fragile persistence of what tries to surface.

This piece holds silence and gravity. It is about listening—truly listening—to what memory whispers when everything else falls away.

In The Breath of Memory, I explore how memory behaves like breath: appearing, dissolving, returning. These paintings move slowly—built through layered paint, scraped textures, and quiet gestures that mirror the internal shifts of recollection. Each piece is an act of noticing, of honoring what emerges in its own time.
