A common scene in early modern art, a portrait of a resting ballerina can be traced to Impressionism and even earlier. This piece is based on life drawings of a member of a Royal Ballet. While the approach to the topic is similar to that of her artistic predecessors, the artist revives it in a completely different manner. Instead of a realistic and often romantic depiction of a ballerina, we find a strong woman, a powerful professional, a dancer. The familiar intersecting lines mark a focal point of this symbolic picture, charged with both energy and grace.
