Original artwork description
This artwork is a celebration of Autumn as I love the vibrant colours of the leaves as we head towards Christmas.
I wanted to have lots of different Autumn colours in this piece so I painted three large sheets in watercolour and then painted spirals across them in metallic watercolours to add shimmer.
From these sheets I cut lots of different types of leaves in various sizes and washed some of them with white watercolour to add contrast.
The process of attaching the leaves to a heavy watercolour paper backing was pretty long as I kept changing my mind where each leaf should go and what height they should be on tiny foam board plinths.
The result is an intricate textured relief design revealing individual leaves on closer inspection. And as with all my work the different shadows cast are as interesting a the piece itself!
Materials used:
Watercolours and metallic watercolours on heavy watercolour paper, in a deep box frame glazed with perspex
