Original artwork description:

When I painted this piece, I wasn't trying to capture a specific place, but rather the soul of a Provençal town — the kind where sunlight clings to the old terracotta roofs, where the air smells of lavender, fresh bread, and wine, and where the shadows of plane trees feel older than the streets themselves.

I visited such a town once, early in the morning. The village was just waking up — someone was opening their shutters, someone else was already seated at a café, sipping coffee in no hurry. These moments stayed with me — not as photographs, but as a feeling of warmth, light, and a kind of peaceful timelessness. That’s what I tried to bring to life on the canvas.

The brushstrokes are bold and expressive — like the breath of Provence itself. The colors are deliberately rich and exaggerated, because in memory, everything seems more vivid: the blue sky, the ochre stone walls, the red café signs, the green shutters. Everything pulses with warmth. Even the buildings — they aren’t just architecture, they feel like characters, each with their own personality and story.

This artwork is made by traditional technology. Oil paints, canvas and linseed oil. I love to write etudes from life in a bright impressionistic manner. Small colorful strokes form a rainbow palette. I will try to convey the movement of air masses and the difference between illuminated and shady places.

Materials used:

Oil paints.
