Original artwork description:

Auvergne landscape, France.

In the bright light of an autumn day, the Loire reveals itself, wild and full of energy. The challenge was to capture the elusive: the running water and the light shimmering on its surface.

The solution lies not in imitation, but in incarnation. Here, the stroke of pure white, thick and in relief, is not an image of the foam; it is the flash of light. The swift brushstroke that streaks the surface is not a description of the current; it is movement itself, the trace of the gesture becoming the trace of the water.

All the canvas's kinetic energy is concentrated in this liquid turmoil in the foreground. As a counterpoint, the riverbank and the hills, rendered in broader, calmer strokes, offer a serene setting for this vibrant riot of movement.

The white finish on the sides of the canvas allows it to be hung without a frame, should you wish.

Materials used:

This painting is painted with professional grade oil colors on a primed canvas. I prepare myself my canvases to create a texture specific to my painting needs and to insure them maximum longevity.
