Athena is the goddess of wisdom and knowledge in Greek mythology. I portrayed an alien Athena, who pondered the mysteries of existence. One day she will unravel the secrets of the universe and share her knowledge with others. Athena has a great intuition and understanding of the essence of natural processes.

▶ ABOUT «FANTASY CREATURES» SERIES
One day I caught myself wondering: what if we could reshape our appearance whenever we wanted, even change our anatomy? That idea grew into the «Fantasy Creatures» Series: portraits of beings who have adapted to life on other planets. Their skin shifts with bold, chameleon-like colors, and their features follow their own strange logic: unusual, alien, and unexpectedly beautiful. Each character reflects transformation, survival, and the wild possibilities of life beyond Earth.

▶ART PAINTING TECHNIQUE
I work in a distinctive mixed-media technique: first creating a rich, textured background in oils on paper, sometimes adding watercolor layers for subtle depth. The creatureʹs face is then painted with acrylic.

▶ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mariia Raskin (b. 1979, Kazakhstan) is an abstract-impressionist painter based in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. She holds a degree in Applied Arts with distinction. Her works are part of the permanent collection of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, and she has held several solo exhibitions in Cyprus, including one inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
A member of the International Association of Art (IAA) and the Eurasian Art Union (EAU), Mariia is a two-time recipient of the Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize and winner of the Boynes Monthly Art Award. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally and featured on major art platforms such as Altiba9, Artsy Shark, and Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine. On Artfinder, Mariia exclusively presents her works on paper.
