Iris, said to be the goddess who links the gods to humanity. She carried messages from heaven to earth on the arc of the rainbow, and was a companion to female souls on the way to heaven. To this day, Greeks plant irises on women’s graves so that Iris will guide them to heaven. The symbology of the iris means wisdom, hope, trust, and valour.

While painting this big 150cm (60") tall canvas, my thoughts revolved around how we, as women evolve & find our wisdom & spiritual centre as we move into our middle years. How the years of experience, learning through trial & mistakes, depth of contribution to those around us, the multitude of roles we fulfil bring us to an inner peace. In gaining our wisdom we find that ascendency to a clearer understanding of who we are & what we are worth. as we age, we ride that rainbow, we bloom in wisdom & it is our time to reignite our dreams & hopes & find the courage to make them happen.

Painting for me is a meditative process & these irises also took me a journey of mindfulness, finding peace & relaxation through connecting to nature through its flora.

The canvas is a big statement piece which brings with it a sense of strength & balance. It fills its space with glamour.
