Original artwork description
Bibury in the English Cotswolds has been described as one of the prettiest villages in the country and Arlington Row is a quintessential example of 14th century life there. The cottages were originally build for the wool trade and fleeces were washed and prepared for spinning then hung out to dry on racks in the field to the right of the picture. The field, known locally as 'The Rack' after the wooden racks used for drying the fleeces is a medium sized water meadow fed by the River Coln which runs through Bibury.
The line and wash watercolour was made from one of my small watercolour sketches I made in-situ. I have tried to capture both the warmth of the Cotswold stone of the cottages and the cool freshness of the water meadow with its wild flowers in the foreground.

Windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours; Cobolt Blue, Light Red, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre and Pin waterproof pen on 140lb Handmade watercolour paper.
