Apple of My Eye (2012) Original Painting by Gray Jacobik

This abstract is both simple and complex: clearly suggestive of an apple, and yet composed of different areas of mass and line, colors that contrast and that complement. It's highly-textured visually (although the surface is completely smooth), and the gold shimmers against the more matte areas of the blue and red. I painted this through a process of raking the paint-rich texture then letting it harden (using acrylic medium), then using a rotary sander, I work the surface down to reveal the lines, so they are cut into the surface, then I add the red and gold, although the gold is flecked so that the red shows through. A small work (only 10x10x2), yet it brightens up the wall -- perfect for a kitchen, a bathroom, a hallway, or even a short living room or study wall.
