Here is a study I made for a larger piece I am working on. It is heavily inspired by Art Deco and the fauvist movement which explores the interaction of colour. Artist Josef Albers wrote at length about ‘colour relatedness ’ and ‘colour harmony’. I believe that colour can evoke emotional responses in us. But what is a landscape? For me, a landscape is a huge expanse of living organic plants; with a history spanning millions of years where many souls have trod it’s grounds. With this in mind, doesn’t it seem fitting to portray it with emotional colour rather than localised, realistic colour? After all, aren’t all landscapes larger than life itself?
