In this imagined Eden inspired by Japanese woodcut print landscapes, an Axolotl is standing watch amongst the leaves. The crystaline form is a quiet remnant of a world before division, suggesting preservation and purity.

The work draws loosely on Paradise Lost and the mythology surrounding the axolotl, once said to be a god who hid from sacrifice by becoming water-bound an ancient Aztec tradition. Here it becomes a symbol of what endures when paradise dissolves, in a world which is changing rapidly.
