And Yet It Still Shines (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Viki Smoliar

50 x 60 x 1.5cm (unframed)

In this work, I explore the moment when light does not disappear, even when it seems hidden beneath layers of noise, time, and experience. The surface of the painting is intentionally uneven; I treat texture as memory- it accumulates traces, erases them, and reveals them again.

The upper part is built on cool tones -a space of uncertainty, depth, and inner searching. There are no defined forms here, only a sense of movement and breathing. At the center, there is a subtle glow, like a thought or feeling that has not yet taken shape, but already exists.

The lower part is both a contrast and a foundation. Warm yellows and golden tones do not merely depict light -they become it. This is not an external source, but a state — an energy that remains even as everything else changes.

For me, this work is about inner resilience. About how light is not always obvious or bright, yet it continues to exist- quietly, persistently, inevitably.
