Original artwork description
A spring day, chilly or warm? No -one can quite decide. A canalside by the Singel, a spot to be still, to inhale the mulchy scent of the water. There is a hint of pungent hash too, beer and frying. A tram rings an angry bell nearby, joining the chimes of the nearby churches, temples who have towered over the old town since the middle ages. There is an indolence in the air, a throwback perhaps to social revolutions in past decades. Above are the canal houses, rigid and proper. Tall windows and narrow rooms, gables and garrets where the ghosts of witches live on. This work is rich in colour and realism and is a perfect souvenir of the city, a great way to start a collection, a fantastic gift. It is on a 0.4 inch deep canvas and can therefore hang without the need for framing if wished.
