Amelioration I (2021)Etchings & engravings
by Simon Lawson
£500
Artwork description
Applying a comparative aesthetic to collage, new and archive plates are used to produce unique composite prints. These result in an ongoing series of large scale unique etchings. They explore the structure of printmaking and through the process of layering and offset printing, the construction of the print itself.
Selected images have been printed as editions where the recreation of the image is possible.
The Amelioration Series take physical subjects as their basis, to represent the human presence and ist's legacy. Although concious of the human impact I am constantly aware of looking upwards, a neglected activity, with our increasing development above our eyeline, that which occurs outside of our consciousness but which greatly impacts our wellbeing and ultimately our future existance. I concentrate on subject matter that is typicallyneglected from artistic representation.

A composite of hand printed etching plates on Somerset Satin 300g paper.
