Alley with a Dead Tree (2024) Original Oil Painting by Natalia Matveeva

This motif was discovered during a walk not far from the city of Augsburg in Germany. I was drawn to the gentle curve of the alley. In general, alleys lined with tall, mature trees create a calming and contemplative space for walking.

One tree stood out from the row of slender, younger trees. It became the focal point of the composition, captivating me with its shape and the richness of its color — a unifying center that brings the entire scene together.

In the distance, I depicted a row of painterly buildings from an old farm, rendered in a warm palette that contrasts with the overall cool tones of the painting.

The work itself is dominated by a cool color range, with a variety of green hues. Some areas are painted with thick, textured brushstrokes, while others are treated with transparent layers of color.

The painting conveys a quiet, уютный (cozy) atmosphere of suburban walks and was created with a sense of lightness and ease.
