This watercolor piece was created during one of my teaching sessions at my watercolor school. The reference image was taken from the internet, so the idea and the source are not originally mine, though I slightly reworked the composition to give it a personal touch.
The painting is part of a lesson where I explained tonal values in watercolor. Over the course of teaching this class, I produced five similar works as demonstrations for my students.
For me, it is not so much the exact color that matters, but how well the colors are balanced with one another — in contrast, harmony, and within a thoughtfully chosen palette. What is most important is to define from the beginning what in the painting will be lighter and what will be darker. Once the tonal values are clear and respected, the work almost naturally falls into place, and the result can truly reach its goal.
"Afterglow" reflects the fleeting stillness of the evening light — a quiet reminder of the beauty that lingers even as the day fades away.
SIZE: H24 x W31 cm 9.4 x 12 inches, signed in the front. The work has a white border for mounting and framing.
TECHNIQUE & MATERIALS: The artwork is original and done with professional watercolor paints on 200 gr 100% cotton acid-free Hahnemühle watercolor paper, which secures its long life (if kept in good storage conditions away from the sun).
FRAMING & PACKAGING: Sold without frame. Frame is added only for preview
All my works aren't framed by default, because that increases shipping price too much. However, the size of the watercolor allows its fast and budget framing using standard mats and frames from your local decor shops.
