Artwork description
This woodcut is a meditation on the inner structure of the human being, where the physical and the spiritual merge into a single symbolic form. The organic lines evoke both an X-ray image and an ancient totem: the skull becomes a vessel of thought, the ribcage a chamber of breath and silence.
The dense black field, carved open by luminous white contours, creates a sense of inner radiance — as if life itself is emerging from within the material. The vertical red bar functions as a sign: a boundary, a wound, or a pulse that divides and stabilizes the composition at the same time.
The woodcut technique intensifies the dramatic contrast. Each carved line preserves the trace of the artist’s hand and the resistance of the material. This is not a medical illustration, but a metaphor — an image of the human as a vessel of energy, memory, and fragility.
