A starling murmuration is a natural spectacle. The starlings gather in huge flocks in the winter months. It is hard to understand but their breeding numbers have fallen by 70%.

This image was achieved by working on two large copper plates equal size. This enabled me to build up the dense mark making to interpret the starling murmuration.

The method used is etching with soft ground and sugar lift aquatint.

Materials used:

oil-based printing ink and somerset satin paper
