- A Warm Evening and Sweet Melon
Original artwork description
Summer does not end with thunderstorms. It ebbs away with this amber light, thick as honey, flooding the garden and lingering without haste. Dust motes float within it like a golden suspension of time, and it feels as though the world has paused to rest, fallen silent, and is simply breathing.
Slices of melon resemble a smile, cut into wedges. Warm, unhurried, sweet. Its sugar is the sugar of a ripe sun, having absorbed all the long days of August. You can eat it in silence, eyes closed, and see behind your eyelids a yellow field, the hum of bees, and air heavy with sunlight.
A sip of scalding tea, a piece of melon cooled in the shade... Where else might one find such a pairing? Heat and chill meet on the tip of the tongue to tell a single story — the story of this evening, this garden, this peace.
And when you take a bite, the juice runs down your chin — this is not awkwardness. It is gratitude. Gratitude to the summer, the sun, the evening. Life is sometimes this simple: warm light, green foliage outside the window, the sweet flesh of a fruit, and a silence you don't wish to break.
And it seems that while you eat this melon, while you drink this tea, time too has settled beside you, watching thoughtfully as the sun paints the edge of the table in pure gold. It is in no hurry. It has, just like you, this evening. This melon. This sweetness melting in your mouth, leaving the aftertaste of an absolute, perfect fullness
