Original artwork description:

This painting was inspired by my visit to Zaanse Schans, a charming historic village near Amsterdam that feels like stepping back in time. The peaceful canals, wooden houses with gabled roofs, and lush green surroundings create a dreamlike atmosphere that seems untouched by the rush of modern life.

I was deeply moved by the harmony between architecture and nature — the soft rustle of leaves, the quiet reflections in the water, and the gentle morning light that bathes everything in a golden glow. I wanted to capture not only the beauty of this place but also its spirit of calm and simplicity.

Using a palette knife technique, I built thick, textured layers of oil paint to give the scene life and movement — the rippling pond, the lively greenery, and the timeless charm of the old Dutch houses. Through color and texture, I aimed to convey the warmth and serenity that Zaanse Schans radiates — a reminder of peaceful moments and the enduring beauty of village life.

Materials used:

Oil canvas, palette knife
