My mixed media collages are made from original monoprints, other printed material, newspapers and sometimes textile fragments. I make the acrylic monoprints in batches without any idea of what they may be used for. To make a collage, I very often start with an acrylic background and cut or tear the selected monoprints in a random or pre-defined way and reassemble them to form an image, which is generally semi-abstract. All of my work is highly coloured and the images start with a colour or shape of an object. The composition is not defined at the beginning but arises organically, as I work with various prints and papers. The process is quite time consuming and sometimes I spend some time searching for the perfect piece of paper to finish the collage. This particular work was inspired by sketches of the various harbours along the East Norfolk coast, where I live. The finished work is supplied in a white mount ready for framing.
