Gaunru Pavilion spans a mountain stream at Gounsa Temple in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, raised on timber stilts so the building itself becomes a bridge. Beneath the curved tiled roof, the eaves carry faded dancheong, teal, red, and gold florals worn by decades of weather. A plank ramp leads visitors across the water below, and wooden shutters line the upper story. Scaffolding on a neighboring hall hints at restoration nearby, a reminder these structures survive through constant care. Set against a green hillside, the pavilion feels both functional and ceremonial. Sturdy red pillars, weathered and cracked with age, rise from the stream bed to carry the full weight of the structure above, while a low stone wall traces the near bank. Gravel paths converge at the pavilion's open threshold, drawing the eye through the shadowed doorway to painted buildings beyond, a structure built for passage as much as prayer, a bridge that doubles as a gate into the temple grounds.
