A quiet scene that depicts a stillness in both space and time.
Absorbed in the landscape, a cluster of people enjoy a day’s end. The intricacies and comic concentration of the group are of a sharp contrast to their surroundings. However, viewed as one entity, they play their part in the compositional harmony of the painting.
These people could well decribe a family unit, or for all that one knows, people of a like-mind. We all share a need to occassionally escape or find peace of mind after all.
Alternatively, the collection of people could represent the many individuals that have stood at that one place through the course of the history. In this case, the painting traverses time, collecting many a moment and envisioning them as one united body.
