“A Pair of Imposters” features a lovely bouquet of St. John’s Wort that I bought from a local florist.
I’ve never seen this particular bunch of buds before but they reminded me of lemons and limes. They bloom into yellow star-shaped flowers that are used for a variety of herbal remedies including to treat depression and stomach ulcers.
And their name comes from St. John’s Feast Day, which happens in June, which is when they bloom. Folks used to hand the dried flowers in their doors to ward off evil spirts and sickness. What a lovely way to ward off bad things!
This piece in oil pastel and oil on 16” x 20” basswood panel and is ready to hand in a natural oak frame.
