This work is about Russia's war against Ukraine. I did this work when my city was heavily bombed by the Russians and I was hiding in a bomb shelter. This work was done with a ballpoint pen on office paper, which is glued with tape. I deliberately use the simplest and most non-artistic materials. I want to emphasize the lightness, simplicity, accessibility and illusion of contemporary art.
The work resembles a fragment of an encrypted system—as if a visual language, assembled from pixels, symbols and patterns, were attempting to convey a message, yet remains partially inaccessible. The red-and-blue colour scheme reinforces the impression of a technical diagram or interface, where human presence is reduced to abstract symbols. The figure at the bottom reads as a simplified character or mechanism, trapped within the structure — somewhere between architecture and a game. The repeating zigzag pattern creates a rhythm, almost hypnotic, yet at the same time—noise, interference. This space looks like a system overloaded with information, where meaning breaks down into elements, whilst the whole remains unstable.
This work consists of individual sheets of A4 paper, which are glued together with adhesive tape. Along the gluing line, the picture can be bent and folded like an accordion, like a brochure. I am taking this opportunity to mail this picture. When you receive this picture, it will be folded like a brochure A4. The picture must be expanded and placed in a graphic frame. This can be easily done by yourself or in any baguette studio.
