There is something so awe inspiring about the moment when the first poppies appear in the fields. I am captivated by the incredible pops of colour springing up amongst the fresh greens everywhere! There is a scarlet haze and glow in my view, and a sure sign that Summer has arrived - an uplifting feeling.
Responding to these natural influences, my visual memories and the feeling of the warm summer breeze on my face, I apply layers of paint to build the basis of the composition. Then, scribing through the wet paint with my palette knife to create movement. And with each stroke I am seeking to convey the essence of ‘being there’ in the meadow. Creating this painting has been a ‘journey of exploration’ – to bring more freedom of expression, layering colour, mark making, depth and texture into my creative process. There is much of my heart and soul woven into this joyful piece.
Painted in my Cambridge studio. This original artwork is created with Winsor & Newton professional oil paints on high quality stretched canvas, with softwood stretchers. Canvas size is 30 x 30 cm x 4.5 cm depth. The image is extended on the sides of the canvas creating a 3-D effect. The canvas is signed on both the front and the back, and there are 2 D-rings attached to each side of the softwood stretchers strung with strong cord so that this artwork is READY TO HANG to sit flush against the wall, with no need for further framing, offering a contemporary finish to the piece.
