A girl in the old cardigan (2026) Original Watercolour by Elena Lykhodid

40 x 50 x 1.5cm (unframed) / 40 x 50cm (actual image size)

My painting "A girl in the old cardigan" is a visual story of continuity and the invisible bonds of a family lineage. The hand-knitted woolen cardigan was created decades ago by the girl’s grandmother in the bloom of her youth. Passed down through the hands of her mother and now resting on the shoulders of the daughter, this garment has become her piece of comfort. In moments of uncertainty or when life’s unpredictable paths lead her far from home, the girl wraps herself in this worn out wool to feel the literal warmth of all the women in her bloodline, their love and support. It is an embrace from her loved ones, offering silent support and a sense of belonging that no distance can sever. In a world of fleeting things, this painting captures the enduring power of family love woven into every stitch, as a reminder that we are never truly alone as long as we carry our heritage in our hearts.

I tried to enhance my idea with a visual contrast between the bright colors of the modern interior, the smooth, light, radiant texture of the girl's young face and the uneven, yet soft texture of the old cardigan, conveyed using watercolor technique.

The artwork is painted on canvas prepared with watercolor ground and sealed with archival watercolor varnish. This guarantees the durability and good preservation of the work. The artwork is ready to hang

A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included with the artwork.
