A Corridor of Green Toward the Gate (2013) Photograph by sangwon jeon
25 x 38 x 0.1cm / 25 x 38cm (actual image size)
£487.96
Artwork description
This photograph looks down a stone path toward the Iljumun gate at Gwaneumsa Temple on Jeju Island, flanked on both sides by rows of tall conifers standing like an honor guard along the approach. Weathered stone Buddhas line the edges of the path just before the gate, their soft, moss-covered features watching over anyone who passes between them. The gate itself is modest compared to its guardian trees — painted panels of guardian figures in red, yellow, and teal fill its lower beams, while a curved tile roof caps the structure against the pale, overcast sky. Cracked flagstones underfoot show decades of footsteps, their irregular seams softened by moss and grass pushing up between them. What draws me to this view is the sense of gradual arrival: no single dramatic threshold, just a long, quiet corridor of green that asks the visitor to slow down before ever reaching the gate. Printed on fine art paper. Sold unframed; ready to be mounted or framed to the collector's preference.
