- 3807 "Adam and Eve"
Original artwork description
The oldest story, retold with tenderness and a quiet sense of humour. Adam offers Eve a small bouquet of white flowers - not an apple. Eve listens, the serpent coiled loosely around her, its strange face watching from above with an expression somewhere between curiosity and mild disappointment.
Everything here is familiar and yet slightly wrong, in the best possible way. The garden is lush and dark, full of leaves and blossoms. The serpent is more bewildered than menacing. And Adam and Eve - elongated, pale, entirely themselves - seem to be having a conversation that has nothing to do with temptation, and everything to do with simply being together in a garden.
I painted them not as symbols, but as people. Awkward, tender, a little lost - and finding each other anyway.
