"Czar Catstick, 'I declare myself NOT a Work of Art' - Portrait of Grayson Perry with Alan Measles, Artist's Proof, 2013" by Czar Catstick

“On a recent interview with Kirsty Wark on BBC's Newsnight, Grayson Perry made a point of saying 'I declare myself NOT a Work of Art'. After listening to the very enjoyable Reith Lectures on Radio Four, I embarked on a series of Grayson Perry portraits referencing famous artists including Hockney, Warhol and Magritte. This particular one was inspired by 'Maya with Doll' (Maya a la Poupee), an oil painting by Pablo Picasso. Created in 1938, the New York Times described it as "a colorful Cubist portrait of Picasso’s daughter as a child clutching a doll."” Discover Czar's promotion in Artfinder's Advent Calendar - https://www.artfinder.com/artist/czarcatstick/sale/

"Jonathan Shepherd, Snow in Town., 2013" by Jonathan Shepherd

Influenced by L.S. Lowry, Jonathan Shepherd's oil paintings depict traditional village life in England. After leaving school at 16, Jonathan served an apprenticeship as a plumber before joining his father in a picture framing business. "Benjamin Robinson, Frosted Frozen Leaf, 2013" by Benjamin Robinson

“Sunken into the frozen flooded fields, midwinter, a leaf protrudes from the earth; sparkling with it's coating of ice particles.” - Benjamin Robinson

"Dex, LONDON FILM MAP LARGE (black)" by Dex

“This piece was created for film fans and people who love London as much as we do. Turning the spotlight on London’s cinematic cool was easy, because so many amazing films are shot here. We began by plotting some of the most iconic titles and our personal favourites. Then adding the best cinemas and all the directors and actors who’ve called London home. Lots of research went into pinning down specific locations for film scenes. Some were shot in the streets as we know them, but others are elaborate sets created especially for the movie.” Discover Dex's promotion in Artfinder's Advent Calendar - https://www.artfinder.com/artist/dex-x/sale/

"Liz McDonough, Metallic Scales, 2013" by Elizabeth McDonough

“Metallic Scales represents fish swimming together in a wave-like motion and expresses how light becomes iridescent. I have a fascination and a great respect for the ocean, with a little fear too. I can’t get enough of the ethereal light as it changes and reflects underneath the water. It always gives me a sense of peace which is something I try to convey. I experimented patiently with different ways of mixing liquid acrylic colours and metallics upon the texture until I had a beautiful iridescence. Layering, mixing colours and layering colours as they were almost dry to blend them.” Discover Liz's promotion in Arfinder's Advent Calendar - https://www.artfinder.com/artist/liz-mcdonough/sale/

"Sandy Dooley, Autumn Bank, 2013" by Sandy Dooley

“My paintings almost all come from being outside, surrounded and inspired by my rural location and ramshackle garden. I work in layers of paint applied by brush, palette knife, and by dripping paint directly onto the canvas. Spontaneity is a very important part of creating a painting for me. I should do some weeding and cutting back in my flower borders, but I love the colours of this autumn in Kent. The sun filtering through leaves and stalks is an arresting sight. The gentle combination of yellows, green, oranges and pale sunshine is lovely, and the inspiration for 'Autumn Bank', which is full of autumnal tones.” Discover Sandy's promotion in Artfinder's Advent Calendar - https://www.artfinder.com/sandy-dooley

"Sam Fenner, Mad Hare Day" by Sam Fenner

Sam Fenner's collectable Quirky Animal paintings always prove very popular, filled with colour and good humour, they are a real talking point on the wall. This best-selling print is a signed, limited edition version of the original acrylic on canvas painting of ‘Mad Hare Day’ from the Quirky Animal Series, a series of beguiling animal paintings oozing with life and vivid character. Sam paints animal portraits, but they are much more than mere realistic images. They have a painterly quality which is an absolute joy, add to that, the feeling that these animals have almost human characters, and even more pleasure comes from then seeing how Sam's witty titles fit the image so closely. "Lene Bladbjerg, Do I?, 2013" by Lene Bladbjerg

“This is one of my favourite screen-prints as it clearly shows my background as a graphic designer and love of typography. I have used the phonetic alphabet to create a hidden message - there's a clue in the title 'DO I?' I love watching people trying to work it out and their reaction when they do. As my tutor used to say 'If you can make them smile, you're halfway there'.” Discover Lene's promotion in Artfinder's Advent Calendar - https://www.artfinder.com/artist/lene-bladbjerg/sale/

"William Oxer, The Sonnet, 2013" by William Oxer

“This painting is one that I worked on by the sea. It reminds me in composition of works by the Pre-Raphaelite painters. There is a strength and subtlety in the relaxed, languorous mood. It's a highly detailed work and the brushwork is fine. The artwork gives one a sense of peace, refinement and of thoughts of passions to be potentially unveiled.” Discover William's promotion in Artfinder's Advent Calendar - https://www.artfinder.com/artist/william-oxer/sale/

"Sandi J. Ludescher, Corn Woman's Task" by Sandi J. Ludescher

“Although it may appear that this watercolor painting of a Navajo woman going about the task of grinding corn is a trek into history or a memory of the distant past; that is not necessarily the case. Deep in the heart of the Navajo Indian Reservation in 2013, women still perform this ritual every day. On an expanded scale, it’s a humbling reminder for many of us living in urbanized areas - where our lives and habits frequently change - that there are still many women throughout the world whose lives are not substantially different than their ancestors. And that their daily rituals - probably seemingly mundane to them - form the basis of what some might consider beautiful enough to be "art."” - Sandi Ludescher
