"Anita Pollinger-jones, The Moon and The Owl, 2012" by Anita Pollinger-Jones

“My art is driven by a desire to create beautiful things, pieces that light up a wall or room - my work is dominated by colour and movement combined with the desire to create unusual, unique pieces. One spectacularly bright, moonlit night I went for a walk along the country lanes and passing over the brow of the hill the view was like a box of chocolates to my eyes! Living in the middle of the English countryside it is always a privilege to be able to see it by moonlight and on this particular night there was a storm blowing in and I could hear an owl in the distance and on the horizon, small as a pinprick, I saw it put to flight.” - Anita Pollinger-Jones

"Elizabeth Cummings Murray, Venice at Dawn, 2013" by Elizabeth Cummings Murray

“Venice is one of those cities I could visit over and over again and never fall out of love with! The vibrance and unique colours and atmosphere there have been captured by many artists. The colour of the sea is signature to Venice. This piece is of my own personalised style; a blend of pointillism and impressionism; using free brushstrokes and colour to create depth and emotion in the scenes. A mix of colours with dots helps creates the feeling of energy and bustling atmosphere that is unique to Venice.” - Elizabeth Cummings Murray

"Carruscaux, Watching the Game, 2013" by Carruscaux

“In my day when we used to watch the game, we had to use stealth, camouflage and teamwork to follow and hunt down the deer. If we made too much noise and made our presence known, the animals would soon run off, our hunt would fail and we'd go hungry. So nowadays I don't really understand all these people waving flags, wearing coloured scarves and ridiculous shirts and shouting at the top of their voices at other people running around in the similar shirts. It's not my idea of successfully 'watching the game'. They'll never catch them that way!” - Carruscaux

"Matthew Stutely, Portrait in sage green., 2007" by Matthew Stutely

“A striking portrait in muted sage and purple tones. Painted in artists acrylics this artwork is a classic example of my signature style of using layered thick brushstrokes to create almost a jigsaw of marks to build an image. I painted this piece in 2007 from a series of live sittings and photographs I took myself. The subject of the portrait is my friend and fellow artist.” - Matthew Stutely

"William Oxer, Waiting, 2013" by William Oxer

“‘Waiting’ is a painting of a woman lying on her back in a flowing dress, her feet in the air. One inspiration was ‘The Christ of St John of the Cross’ by Dali. Yet here we have a woman, not Christ; clothed rather than unclothed, ethereal rather than wretched; closer to Victorian Romanticism. She has her legs firmly crossed; denying sexuality and perhaps an allusion to the Cross. Is this a woman waiting supinely for her lover? Or a reference to the last moments of Christ; ‘giving up the ghost?’. Perhaps this work is literally turning things upside down.” - William Oxer

"Sarah Whiteside, Welsh Slate Landscape, 2013" by Sarah Whiteside

“My art practice involves short journeys to the mountain-side in Rachub on my bike. This is Brenda Chamberlain country (1912 – 1971, Welsh Artist and poet), where I like to draw the slate rock faces. In the summer I paint on canvas, in oils, in situ. At this time of year, the wind and rain mean that only paper, pencil, watercolour pans and a little water are all that can be stowed in my rucksack. Inspired by the working drawing by Frank Auerbach for “Primrose Hill”, the sketching journeys fill me with energy to take back to my studio.” - Sarah Whiteside

"Sue Rowe, Anarchy!, 2010" by Sue Rowe

“As I love the Union Jack flag and the history behind it, I was inspired to paint this large acrylic painting (102cm x 91cm) depicting the iconic 'Punk' Union Jack image used on the Sex Pistols album 1977 with 'Sex Pistols' written through and safety pins holding the ripped flag together.” - Sue Rowe

"Emma Hughes, Poppy, 2011" by Emma Hughes

“With freshly opened petals, tissue-paper-creased, this giant corn poppy was already big, measuring 15cm across it was begging to be photographed, I love the dark mysterious interior, a mass of black stamen surrounding the stigma contrasting beautifully against the vivid red of the fragile delicate petals, it was a mass of contradictions and a joy to study and photograph.” - Emma Hughes You can browse more artworks of poppies in our new collection - https://www.artfinder.com/story/the-poppy/

"Sven Laurent, Tower Viewer" by Sven Laurent

“This image of a coin-operated binocular tower viewer gives me the strange impression that I am the one who is observed. Inspired by "melancholic wanderings", Brussels based photographer Sven Laurent explores the questions of space and materiality in contemporary landscape photography. This image of a is part of a series showing common objects of our urban lives. The light, materiality and perspectives of the represented objects give us a different look on the daily environment of the cities we live in. The choice of printing large scale posters on mat paper was motivated by its natural referral to public display.” - Sven Laurent
