"Emma Cownie, Down Cwmdonkin, 2013" by Emma Cownie

“Another 'refractionist' painting. The title takes it's name from the actual park, Cwmdonkin Park, where the poet and composer of words Dylan Thomas walked and displayed as a child and adolescent, maybe imagined and constructed as a young man. His family home hugged the side of the park, on the steep of the hill running alongside the park. Perhaps he extended his journey to the Uplands Tavern this way or then again, perhaps not! This paint takes the techniques evident in my work “Fractured Light” but smoothes them out, making the lines less obvious and jagged. There is a movement in the trees, reflective of the sea breeze that scurries up to soothe the Uplands and surrounds. There is a suspension and balance in this light touch. A warm, light airyness". - Emma Cownie

"Iñaki Crespo, 8 figures and 2 horses, 2007" by Iñaki Crespo

“I went to Seville years ago and I was amazed about the architecture of the buildings, history and people's passion. They enjoy life so much and the interesting thing of it is that they don't even need to go abroad for a break because they are so proud of the place they were born that they make the most of it in every single way. This work is about the colours, architecture, people gathering together and show their passion to the world. We can see the Square, one person on a horse, one donkey on the right, three girls talking on the front picture and four other women far away.” - Iñaki Crespo

"Lee Bender, FoxFur, 2013" by Lee Bender

“I have always worked in fashion design and making clothes for women. I was trained to draw fashion images at Art College and since then - over time, I have developed my drawing abilities and now find it fun to celebrate women by cultivating many different images in how they wear their clothes just to make the drawing interesting. There is no need to persuade my clients of the suitability of what suits them which is a very liberating process. The interesting aspect of creating an image on paper or canvas allows me an element of 'make believe' which is then totally up to me to convey to the onlooker.” - Lee Bender

"Teun van der Zalm, In the Wake, 2013" by Teun van der Zalm

“As an artist the last 3 years were very exciting. With previously creating short 3D animation films, I began to search for more abstract forms and meanings. The goal was to find a technique that creates high detailed digital images with a natural feeling. Inspired by art movements from the beginning of the 20th century, I began to work on a bridge between the natural and the digital worlds. Inspired by the song of King Crimson “In the Wake of Poseidon”, the result is a abstract rendering of the sea God swinging with his hands from left to right.” - Teun van der Zalm

"Kris Vandecruys, Cowesome, 2011" by Kris Vandecruys

“This image was captured on 18 august 2011, the day the worst storm in decades hit Belgium. I wanted to make animal portraits, and found a willing farmer that allowed me access to his cows. Our gear was just set up when the storm broke and we had to find shelter in the stables. Most cows in the stable shied away from the flashes, except this one, who was separated from the rest, gave me a moment of her time. Out of the many hours spent shooting, this was the single image that stood out. The distinct dark postprocessing commemorates the many victims of the storm.” - Kris Vandecruys

"Keith Dodd, Waves of Colour, 2013" by Keith Dodd

"My digital print ‘Waves of Colour’ was originally a digital sketch created to provide the composition and the colour balance for a painting I produced in acrylics. Inspiration for this and my other seascapes came from that famous woodcut print by Hokusai’s Beneath the Wave off Kanagawa, and my fascination with the raw power of the sea. This was one of my first colour ventures as my previous works had always been in monochrome due to my life as a graphic designer/artist." - Keith Dodd Save 20% on Keith's digital prints when you order before December 31.

"Anne McKenzie, Silver Birch, 2012" by Anne McKenzie

“Embrace the season, allow yourself to be surrounded with soft golden cascades of leaves. Sense the subtlety of the light changing moment by moment. Hold a leaf in your hand and marvel at it's structure. Let your eyes climb the lines of trunks and branches. Enjoy the empty spaces and silences. This work comprises three layers of acrylic paint on Perspex which can be re-arranged as desired.” - Anne McKenzie

"Caroline Hall, Aldgate to Liverpool Street (passing in the tunnel), 2013" by Caroline Hall

“Aldgate to Liverpool Street, passing in the tunnel is based on a filmed journey on the Circle Line. Most of the journey was boring and uneventful but going through the video frame by frame I came across this moment where a train flashed past in the other direction. A moment of brilliant colour - a landscape glimpsed which I recreate as streaks of brilliant colour across the surface of a sheet of aluminium. I mount the aluminium on a subframe so that the painting floats on the wall.” - Caroline Hall

"Fiona Read, Winter Rose, 2012" by Fiona Read

“This rose grows outside my kitchen door and all summer long is laden with sweet smelling flowers that the bees love. This was painted in early October, the last solitary rose, catching the thin watery sunshine. I just had to paint it!” - Fiona Read
