"John DeFeo, Night Swimming 1" by John DeFeo

“There is something undeniably seductive about the night -- it has the power to shroud, obscure and to intensify. Night Swimming 1 is from a series of paintings entitled “Night Swimming and Other Nocturnal Pleasures” which investigates the freedom, excitement and pleasure that can be found in embracing the dark. In Night Swimming 1, as with all of my paintings, I hope to remind the viewer that you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to find places that are magical, feelings that can electrify and experiences that can change your life.” - John DeFeo

"Elena Renaudiere, Quantifying relationship, 2013" by Elena Renaudiere

“The idea for this painting came after one of those long discussions I had with my best friend about the perfect partner and the perfect relationship. Putting down on paper criteria, creating categories and allocating level of importance only to conclude that it is a pointless and silly exercise. There’s no such thing as a perfect relationship. Nevertheless, some imperfections can make a relationship beautiful and worthwhile. This is what I chose to express in my painting - ups and downs, blue days and bright days, perfect lines and not so perfect ones, colour matching and daring combinations.” - Elena Renaudiere

"Alexandra Bruce, The Brecons, 2013" by Alexandra Bruce

“I'm intrigued and fascinated by the ever-changing landscape of the Brecon Beacons National Park, in South Wales. I love the play of light, the movement of the weather, and the flow of water through the landscape. Streams and rivers cascade through deep gorges and over waterfalls. This year, the area was granted dark skies status, with protection from light pollution. The mountains are extraordinarily beautiful, but the weather can change before you know it, and it suddenly becomes a very dangerous, and lonely, place to be. This painting is the most recent of my series on the Brecons, with more to follow.” - Alexandra Bruce

"Randy Conner, Behind Shadows, 2013" by Randy Conner

“I am a big fan of bright, bold colors. I think it can be really beautiful when you use the “wrong” color for a part of a painting. It can still work, because our eyes try to make sense of it for us, even though we can see that it is not “correct.” The strange colored shadows on and around the jaguar make this piece feel more mysterious. This painting is one of my favorites because there is something about the lighting and colors that just feels so good on the eyes. It really lights up the room.” - Randy Conner

"Forest James , JAMIE LYNN, 2013" by Forest James

“Jaime-Lynn was my dance partner for our annual elders gathering in Eureka, California. After the gathering that year I asked Jaime-Lynn and her mom (Gayle) if they would be willing to let me photograph her on our reservation. She makes all her own regalia and has since she was really little. This location was of particular significance to me, I grew up on this beach and it was and is a big part of our culture. If you ever get the chance, come see where the redwoods meet the ocean on the California Oregon border.” - Forest James.

"Alex Barros, Reina, 2012" by Alex Barros

“‘Reina’, or ‘Queen’ is the name of this painting, exhibited in May 2013 in the Rural Hotel El Barreal in a room which has the same name. As the ‘Queen's room’ is the most amazing room of the Hotel, this painting is one of the most important in my production. Three days of painting and fighting, to make these vibrations in the canvas - the sky, which is in movement preparing itself for a storm, was painted again and again. Finally I got what we wanted, and when I was thinking of leaving it I had a moment of clarity which let me finish the work.” - Alex Barros

"Marc Todd, Autumn Forest, 2013" by Marc Todd

“After a long hot Summer and the challenges of finding quiet places to paint in the city parks, it's always the onset of Autumn that really excites the urban landscape artist as the temperature lowers, the crowds thin, and the flora comes alive in a kaleidoscope of golden yellow and russet red hues. This painting is the result of an early sunlit morning session on Wimbledon Common in South West London. Unfortunately there were no Wombles to be seen that morning, but the plethora of breathtaking colours on display more than made up for it!” - Marc Todd

"Chris Keegan, Citylines" by Chris Keegan

“‘Citylines’ is a multi layered cityscape with a collapse of perspective and a combination of bold colour reversals, creating a compressed urban world in an colourful altered state. This piece was hand-printed in eight colours including fluorescent pink and metallic silver, and comes in an edition of 45.” - Chris Keegan

"Hong Seon Jang, Black Forest, 2012" by Hong Seon Jang

Hong Seon Jang uses found materials to recreate and recontextualize structures and scenes from our environment. For this project Jang screenprints layers of torn pieces of tape to build the image of a forest. While applying new meaning to the everyday material, his works also consider the fragility of our surroundings. Hong Seon Jang created Black Forest through the Lower East Side Printshop’s prestigious Special Editions Residency Program in NYC, working in collaboration with Master Printers Erik Hougen and James Miller.
