"James Yeo, Gold Council Flat , 2012" by James Yeo
“I spent the summer of 2012 in Thailand and whilst travelling around the country I was memorised by the decorative gold that featured across Thai architecture. Whilst on my travels it was a pleasant sight but upon my return to the UK I felt shock and confusion as to why a greatly poverty stricken country is decorated with so much gold. This inspired me to create work that displayed decorative gold on familiar and run down architecture commonly seen across the UK. The simple designs of council flats and tower blocks I felt were an interesting surface to juxtapose the recognised symbol of wealth. This stretcher was 100% hand built and stretched by the artist to professional standards.” Discover James' promotion in Artfinder's Advent Calendar: https://www.artfinder.com/artist/james-yeo/sale/
