"Walking in the spring rain , 2014" by Aurelija Kairyte-Smolianskiene

“Everybody knows the feeling...The one you get strolling in the warm Spring rain. I live in the Lithuanian countryside, in an animal farm. Springs here are extremely muddy; the melting snow makes the ground go soggy, swell with dampness it cannot contain. The grass is still autumn brown, covered by last year’s leaves. Nevertheless, the Spring slowly seeps in, encouraged by the bright sky, stirring your expectations. The rain is warm, and you can spot the new grass buds cautiously, almost reluctantly emerging from the soaked soil. In this ink painting I wanted to describe the early Spring atmosphere, conveyed by the loose strokes of my brush.”

"Old Town in dusk, 2013" by Jelena Nova

“This color pencil drawing was inspired by Riga - the capital of Latvia's Old Town with its cobbled streets, where the dusk was creating amazing color patches on the buildings and pavements. I was travelling trough 3 countries in 2 days to go where my heart lives, and Riga was one of the points where I spent few hours before my departure - enough to wander around and admire the evening lights. And there it was - a quiet little street with amazing blues and yellows with crystal clear early evening sky on the background. It captured my heart and I have captured it in my memory.”

"Chris, 2014" by Stephanie Jory

“I wanted to paint Chris because he’s my best friend’s dad and had been strong male figure in my life since I was 18 - for the periods when my Dad was in prison and since my Dad died 7 years ago. Another reason for painting him was because he has such a strong, expressive face full of wisdom and thought and I wanted to emphasise this by painting him close up, in a landscape format as if a window into his thoughts or perceived thoughts. I also wanted to include his hands as I very much associate his expression with them which is heightened by the arthritis. I wanted to paint every line and crevice, every detail in this man’s face, a face that holds, and I know can definitely tell, a story or two!”

"Beach Kickabout., 2013" by John Halliday

“This painting was inspired by a rare sunny day and thoughts of what are remembered to be better summers. My aim was to capture an impression from my childhood/youth playing on a beach with usually my brothers and some friends, and always football. At the time these games were as competitive as cup finals. Oils on a canvas board gave me the colours and shapes I needed to complete this work.”

"Bay Watch (Nano 01), 2013" by Stephanie Ho

“I want viewers to appreciate the paintings initially through the activity of looking, without interpretation. Stand afar and squint your eyes, get a feel of the picture through its colours and composition, enjoy the poetic movement of the crowds, then gradually become drawn to the details of the figures. Painting is just like composing a piece of music; with notations hanging across the lines creating enchanting melodies. Some figures walk aimlessly on their own, some stand in deep thoughts, others are dragged along in the flow; some take a break to ponder, some are waiting for their long lost friends, whilst others are sharing a moment with their long found love…There are so many details you could look at them forever and never quite see everything. With your eyes slowly following the diminishing perspectives, suddenly comes the smell of oil paint… before you realize, your nose will be touching the canvas!”

"London Past Present , 2012" by Christopher Langley

“This work is inspired by my trips to London on business and for leisure. I wanted to create an original look of this iconic city. I represent the buildings, both historic and modern, in a cubist style; they are not in proportion nor accurately positioned in relation to each other. I remember on its very first viewing, a Londoner found it quite upsetting! Yet, this has become one of my most popular works.”

"Wondrous " by Kev Munday

“‘Wondrous’ is my largest work on canvas to date, measuring 180 x 160cm. Meticulously painted over many hours using a range of techniques, the work was unplanned, unsketched and created entirely freestyle - I drew everything that popped into my head onto the canvas. ”

"High Tide, 2013" by Belinda A-Pearce

“Excuse the pun, but I am in my element, when I paint! For as long as I can remember I have been enthralled by the sky: the constantly-evolving, ever-changing, subtlety of shades above us! Add to this the sheer expanse and ultimate beauty in the panorama of a seascape, and joy for me is yet more colour combinations as the effects of light on the water’s surface blend. It is these elements which are my inspiration, and in my canvas I hope to capture and convey the atmosphere of the moment evoked by the elements.”

"Gissa Vem (Integration), 2013" by Pernilla Iggstrom

“This work was based on a school photo from the 70s, made into a collage, then painted. This is an exploration into cultural identity; the relation between the exterior and the interior and how ones culture heritage versus one's present environment affects one's identity. The blue/yellow impasto paint represents the Swedish flag's colours, cascading out.”

"Just Fishing, 2013" by Sam Charles

“By simplifying then amplifying the colours and shapes of animal in his paintings, Sam Charles offers a neck-snapping punch of vivid style and mesmerising technique.” - Frank Stephenson, Design Director at McLaren Automotive. Hand painted using highly pigmented oil paints and the natural organic texture of linen, each Sam Charles artwork is unique combination of differing colours and textures.
