"Silence will fall, 2013" by Michelle Hold

“‘Silence Will Fall’ is the first painting of my new cycle ‘Silence’ which will be exhibited in Italy from September 6, 2014. I like to deal with themes of physical science and the cosmos, to tap into the sheer wonder of life. For me painting is also a spiritual approach to life; I therefore like to celebrate the vision of mystery. Like Magritte said: "Art is a mean of evoking mystery ." In this new cycle my research goes to silence - can we possibly hear silence, see nothingness, experience anything outside the continuum of time? I think that silence is a powerful force. It can produce profound emotions or conjure startling sensory experiences, and it seems inextricably linked to the passage of time. Ultimately, it is a sense of equilibrium that I seek to express, a feeling of inner peace and balance to the attainment of a divine state.”

"Cavern, 2013" by Sam Lock

“The energy of this painting comes from a richness of colour and dynamic surface texture, inspired by a trip to the prehistoric caves of Pech Merle in central France. Descending into the ground, stepping back in time, breathing solid air, the atmosphere dank and chilled; an underworld full of liquid noises and stained by the natural ores and ochres of the earth.”

"Psychedelic Pug, 2014" by Raffaella Bertolini

“Since I got my German Shepherd dog 3 years ago I started to observe all the dogs we met; there are so many different breeds and each one of has its different personality. Pugs are the ones that always put a smile on my face, those big sad eyes, their roundness. I always wanted to paint one, and here it is, the Psychedelic Pug!”

"Hearts & Buttons, 2014" by Lee Bender

“I work mostly in watercolour, and as can be seen with some of my work, red is my favourite colour! When I was a fashion designer, going to parties and social events was what influenced my designs, apart from the fact that clothes for special occasions were more often a reason to buy! Glamour plays an important part for most of my illustrations. In fact, I would quite like to have worn this outfit myself - some time ago - hat or no hat!”

"Kite Dreams, 2013" by Danny Abrahams at Heartbeat Gallery

The artist Danny Abrahams was born in Bradford, UK in the late 70’s. As a true Yorkshire man he has been influenced by the northern landscape finding beauty in everyday images and situations. Danny has a signature style comprised of atmospheric, ethereal skies and stylised naïve figures. The colouring he uses is mellow, rich in tone, and vibrant in quality. With this he captures the many moods of the landscape creating magical skyscapes. We love Danny’s kite flying paintings from his ‘When we were kids’ series, they have a dream like quality evoking nostalgia for childhood and simpler times.

"Rolling Hills, 2013" by Chris Keegan

“This is a four colour print combining Yellow, deep Green and Blue layered and finished off with a vibrant bold Red. The inspiration for this print comes from a drawing I did standing on top of a hill on the border of England and Wales. The view of the rolling hills fading into the mist has never left me. With this screen print I have created my own vivid interpretation of that view.”

"I Feel A Little Different Today, 2014" by Gabriel Böhmer

This piece, of a person with beetle parts, was painted after Gabriel woke up somewhat cranky. He has used the beetle as a means to express unruly behaviour for some time, and has also published a book called ‘Beetle Days,’ about mischievous beetles that steal things. The painting was entirely completed in Acrylic paint, including the painstaking gothic calligraphy—which made Gabriel even more grouchy…or as he likes to say, ‘beetley.’ However, upon the painting’s completion, these thoughts lifted and Gabriel felt much better.

"A Night in Nuremburg, 2014" by Charlotte Durie

“In May 2013 I accompanied a friend on a road trip from Wales to Budapest. Our second night saw us in Nuremburg. There was something captivating and enchanting about this reconstructed city where Durer was born. We sought refuge from the rain and a sense of calm and anticipation crept over me. Once home, I played around with the image. However it wasn't until I re-discovered my Sennelier oil pastels, that the whole occasion began to take shape on paper. I was very excited by the emerging images and how the street took on fantastic forms; doors don't necessarily lead you anywhere. And why are there empty shelves - bar a vase - in a shop window? There is more here than initially meets the eye...”

"Barn, 2013" by Rennie Pilgrem

“This Limited Edition Giclée print was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2013 from over 12,000 entries. It was one of the highest-selling prints from a debut artist. I entered the RA competition for the first-time because I thought I was onto something with this new style. Grained landscapes and buildings are created from my imagination but have been variously described as American, Scandinavian and just plain warped.”

"One that got away" by Lorna Doyan

“A beautiful dimensional artwork in a vibrant red on white. The butterflies radiate out from the centre of the frame in a circular pattern, which has order and symmetry only broken by one single escaping butterfly. This is a 24crt gold leaf butterfly which adds a preciousness to the piece. The repetitive relief design gives this artwork an abstract, modern feel and reveals the butterfly design on closer inspection. Every butterfly is hand punched and folded and glued with precision. The 3-dimensional aspect creates beautiful shadows which give the artwork a life of its own and changes throughout the day in changing light situations. It comes fitted and framed in a solid box frame.”
