"Alice: Drunk and Disorderly, 2013" by Adam Hornsby

“I really loved painting this, as the start of a whole new body of work. It was something different and quirky. I really liked the idea of a twisted story behind Alice in Wonderland. Just picture it.... Alice dragged into the Wonderland police station, make-up smeared, bottle in hand, in such a state. Apparently upon finding a bottle marked "Drink Me" she proceeded to do just that. Then having passed out on the mad hatter's table and ruining the tea party the police were called.”

"Winter Thaw, 2009" by Sophie Penstone

“I’m not known for painting landscapes but there was something about the view as we drove past on a frosty morning one November that made me insist we stopped the car! I was struck by the way the thawing frost was creating such a strong contrast of colours. The fields were more blue/green than usual and were perfectly complimented by the ochres and siennas in the ploughed field in the foreground. After a hurried sketch and some notes I took photographic evidence to begin the painting back in the studio. I always start with washes in watercolour which help create a sense of distance and then bring in the vibrancy of the acrylic inks. People often comment on two things: the ‘bent’ tree, which is a common site in Cornwall as the strong sea winds force some trees to grow this way; and the purposeful splatter of paint that has been nicknamed ‘the worm!’ Both features have made me very fond of this painting.”

"After The Storm II, 2014" by Greg Howard

“I love painting large, dramatic paintings with bold contrasts of light and dark, vivid colours, and lots of contrasting areas of textured and smooth washes with quiet areas for respite and busy areas that arrest your attention before allowing you to move on. Painting this felt good! A lot of people ask where it is but the place does not actually exist except in my imagination. Instead it relates to the memories that we all have of being on some U.K beach with the wind blowing in our faces and the threat of a storm in the air. What do you think?”

"St. John's Beach ( diptych), 2012" by Rachel McCullock

“It was the North Norfolk coastline that mesmerised and inspired me to create this painting. I have endeavoured to encapsulate the drama and excitement of waves crashing onto these magnificent beaches. I believe my innovative and unique techniques in the use of mixed media allow me to bring to life the spirit of the ocean. This is a large statement piece which would provide a striking focal point to a sizeable blank wall.”

"Occitan Landscape , 2013" by Francisco Centofanti

“This is a view of the Occitan landscape, an area in the South of France near Toulouse. It is lesser known than Provence but for me equally intriguing and beautiful. I started this painting in December 2012 from life and finished it in July 2012. It is really a collection or a diary of colours built up in layers through Winter, Spring and Summer. I loved approaching the painting in this manner as it allows you to respond to what is in front of you and build upon the ever changing aspect of nature.”

"Unravel, 2014" by Sumit Mehndiratta

“Before making this piece, I was inspired from the several layers which I could see in nature. Layers of a flower, layers in a cabbage and so on. To represent the same effect, I picked up soothing colored papers on a white background. Inspired from the art of folding paper called origami, I created this circular abstract collage which represents unravelling of a living being and what resides within its core. The black color represents the materialistic wants and the white dot being the soul in its purity.”

"Serenity Road" by Fernando Messias (aka Vertelli)

“This oil painting was inspired by the path to peace. It reminds me of flags of freedom blowing in the wind somewhere on a high mountain road, and I hope it will transport the viewer into a Zen state of mind; along a "Serenity Road", forgetting the world outside and its complexities. I created this work in a phase of my life as a new parent. The transition inspired an aura of tranquility and a reflection on the world and its future influence on my child. The memory of billowing peace flags and all the emotion they evoked in my soul is an inspiration I wish to pass on to my son.”

"The Hill, Through Someone Else's Eyes, 2014" by Martina Furlong

“This is my interpretation of a scene in Co.Wexford in the south east of Ireland. I painted it using rollers, twigs, scrapers and pallet knives as well as brushes to add texture and then work back into the surface.”

"Ile-Tudy, Brittany, 2013" by Brian Hanson

“I painted this piece using oil paint applied with a palette knife on stretched canvas. I have recently returned from a painting trip to Brittany, France, and this is the first of a series of impressions of the area. This particular piece shows the view from the jetty at Ile-Tudy, and I hope it captures the mood of a quiet day under big autumnal skies.”

"Rye on a winters day , 2012" by Brian Tucker

“Travel, how most of us love it! All my life I have been lucky enough to have travelled a lot, both business and pleasure and painting as I travelled has been a lovely way to record those wonderful journeys. Nearer to my home in Kent in the UK are great places and painting opportunities. This painting of Rye, a medieval town in Sussex about 50 miles away shows its distinctive skyline and the marshes around it. It is one of our favourite places and the sunset just shows it at its best. I hope like me you enjoy it!”
