I love the process of creating art. I respond to light, color, form and the beauty of our everyday world. Whatever moves me finds expression in my paintings. The subject matter is varied. It could be the places I visit, the place where I live, the people I know or unknown faces that intrigue me. The mood could be somber or cheerful. It could be the light and the way it transforms something or it could be the color which creates its own mood. In fact, it could be anything. One thing that is common in my eclectic subject matter, is that it has excited me and made me feel compelled to paint it. At the bottom of it all, I think there is a quest for beauty. I see it, respond to it and want to capture it on canvas/paper.
I work with oils, acrylic, water color. I also love drawing using pencil, charcoal, pastels and ink. The choice of the medium depends on the subject I choose. I am also experimenting with digital art and I am excited about the possibilities it offers.

Event:
Eternal Whispers of Stone
Dates:
4 Aug 2026 - 10 Aug 2026
Venue:
Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Worli, Mumbai - 400018
Eternal Whispers of Stone presents a compelling ongoing series of paintings by Mumbai-based artist Uma Krishnamoorthy, who turns her gaze towards India's sacred architecture as repositories of memory, devotion and cultural continuity. Rather than treating temples as monuments frozen in history, Uma approaches them as living presences whose meanings continue to evolve through ritual, landscape and the everyday lives that surround them.
Working primarily in oil on linen or canvas, the artist journeys across the Indian subcontinent; from the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the sculptural magnificence of Kamakhya in Assam to the temple towns of Kashi, Konark, Kasardevi, Kopeshwar and beyond.
