About Irene Makarova

About me and my inspiration:

Hello! My name is Irene Makarova, and I am a professional artist. I was born in Moscow (Russia), but I live and work in London (UK) now. Painting is my daily occupation and passion.

I have participated in more than 60 exhibitions in different countries. My works are in private and public collections in England, Scotland, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, Finland, and the Czech Republic.

I like to work with oil and open colours. Each colour appeals to its own emotions and has its internal sound. 

My art was influenced by the pictorial language of the Russian avant-garde of the early twentieth century and the work of German expressionists, as well as by Bosch, Giotto, El Greco, and Modigliani. There is a connection with archetypes expressed in the deep mythology of various countries and cultures in my paintings.

About my paintings and creative themes:

I love travelling and painting the beautiful nature of different countries, but now the focus of my work is paintings with the plots that are born inside me through observing and experiencing the life around me. I also draw inspiration from the deep mythology of various countries and cultures. 

For me, the important moment is when a person looks at a painting and something begins to happen: the transformation that brings a person closer to his authenticity. It brings him to the very point where it is simply impossible to lie. This authenticity makes it possible to make his own choices, to see the present, to feel the talented, to feel the only true. For me, genuine art is a direct and very accurate hit in a non-verbal space. It is a combination of depth and height. My artwork is a way to talk about important things with people. I am interested in the invisible (meaning, symbol) that hides behind the usual visible around us.

I want my paintings to help a person tune in to his own meanings, to come to his own deep states and experiences.
