About Gavin Bishop

I have now been painting urban scenes in London and Manhattan for the last 5 years.  Lots of architecture, street scenes, graffiti etc and I’ve become more confident with the images I paint.  I’m really interested in areas of the city pre gentrification which are normally fairly gritty scenes. I’ve been developing my painting style to be more illustrative, I love playing with light and shade. Often intensifying the contrast between bright light and completely dark voids to create a striking image.  I work in acrylic and normally paint on square canvas 20”x20” or 24”x24”.  I work from photos and try to learn all about the building whilst completing the piece.
