Andrés Portillo is a painter born and based in Mexico City whose work explores impressionism and realism, more recently involving Mexican identity, memory, and history through a contemporary interpretation of the Mexican Western.
His work combines classical realism with Impressionist intensity, paying special attention to light, color, and the emotive depiction of the human figure. He draws inspiration from the Mexican Revolution, rural life, the landscape, the border region, and Mexico’s faith and traditions, creating scenes that evoke both historical memory and the imagery of the Mexican West.
