"Wall 7" is a monumental study of degradation that transforms a retaining wall or a pier into an architectural micro-landscape of geological scale. The horizontal bands, which constitute the original construction, become tectonic layers upon which time has etched its history. The wall ceases to be a background; it becomes a raw, abstract painting.
My inspiration is how natural processes (water, salt, oxidation) paint on artificial structures. The upper sections, with their white and blue streaks, resemble frozen waterfalls or flowing magma (an effect known as efflorescence). The middle section reveals dirty, washed-out cement, and the bottom section, with its vertical, ribbed elements and patches of rust, introduces industrial rigor and a dark, aquatic depth.
