On the ferry ride from Rockland Maine to Vinalhaven, an island of great beauty 40minutes off the coast, you pass many lovely smaller islands with their rock beds sculpted and colored by the sea that cradles them. I tried to capture the boldness of the island bedrock and tenacity of the trees that cling to them in the afternoon light. I used the pallet knife liberally to create the intensity of the scene. I am always amazed at the color and light that plays such an important part of the beauty that is the Penobscot Bay in Maine. In this piece there are four distinct color pallets: Sky, Trees, Rocks and Sea.
