Original artwork description:

This artwork is inspired by the coexistence of ancient Japanese aesthetics and the fast-paced rhythm of contemporary Tokyo. Traditional cloud-painting motifs and gilded screen culture meet the dense, electric blue cityscapes of Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Roppongi. I hope viewers feel a sense of discovery—seeing how heritage and modernity overlap, how the city’s future continuously rises through layers of memory. As media i chose a mix of rice, koji, and gold acrylic paste to honor Japan’s food traditions that pass through generations, becoming a common ground to experience old and new. The style blends traditional byobu screen composition with contemporary linework to portray Tokyo as both timeless and ever-changing.

Materials used:

Acrylic, Gold, Rice and Koji powder
